Session 38: Tomb Robbers and Heart Breakers
session

Players: Ben, Jamas, Jon, Joshua, Marcus

Here is part 1
Here is part 2

Stormhaven has changed since our heroes last visit. No longer the vacation paradise, Ken Allard has gone slightly off his rocker and there’s a new Marshall in town with the dismissal of Ben Ward. The players explore the creepy island and engage in a little honest tomb raiding. Gavin Marshall encounters an old chum in this exciting episode.

Joshua tries to join us again, but alas Skype does not like the poor boy. I had an actual plot outlined for this one as a departure from our sandbox games of the last few sessions. The PC’s do eventual catch the plot thread and roll around like kittens in it producing a fine tangle.

Session 37: The Return of The Dr.
session

Breaking News: I pooched the podcast feed for the last episode, it pointed to the previous audio file. It’s fixed now, updating your podcast feed should resolve the matter if you don’t get the file from here directly and use a podcatcher/itunes to deliver the goodness

Players: Ben, Jamas, John(prime), John H., Marcus

Here is part 1
Here is part 2

Dr. Babar returns to the mire of intrigue that Metapol has become in his absence. The heroes wrap up their plans in Metapol just as the authorities begin to close in. Police, Apes and ex-girl friends are eluded as the characters make their break for Stormhaven.

Welcome back Ben, it’s good to have the Dr. back amongst us. Sure you may be coming back to a business with a shattered waiting room, police after you and old companions trying to get you caught up in sedition, but at least your car is in good shape!

Here is part 1
Here is part 2

The PC’s are on the run and pulling in their network of resources. Who can they trust? Who should they fear? And what the hell is really going on!

Another session of debate and plodding. Some interesting things are discovered and the players begin to see they just aren’t the “big picture” sort. Joshua M. joins us with his character Ethan Thane, that unfortunately does not get a lot of air time. The player created groups come into play somewhat in this episode and will lead to more hashing out of rules.

Session 35: Quantum Radios!
session
  • Players: Jamas, Jon, John, Marcus, Nick

Here is the session in total.

Meet the new Tesla, same as the old Tesla? It seems that Tesla (prime) had a backup secret lair/love nest. Killer apes wearing badges start poking around and Gavin pushes buttons. Metapol has much love for Bishop, but do they want to elect him or castrate him? All will be answered in this exciting episode…

Technology stabs us in the eye on this one. The newest version of Skype does not play well with Powergramo the utility that I’ve been using to record our most recent sessions. After an hour of tech-tard we try our first stab at using Mumble as a Skype alternative. It has some nice features, including a build in recorder that has excellent quality. Too excellent in some cases as it can’t seem to tell the difference in Nick’s breathing and his speaking, and thus we hear both in fine detail. It also crashed on Jamas’s computer, so without some serious testing and tweaking I’m not sure it would fly for a Skype alternative.

Some things I like about Mumble – No player based server, everyone connects to a central server that passes on the audio streams. With a good server, and I’m willing to set one up or purchase one, I think this will let us have a larger group without a degradation in sound or call quality. It would even allow for “lurkers” who can listen but not participate in the game. The recording function even seems to be robust as it allows the recording of each person as an independent stream. There is also the daunting fact that Microsoft just bought Skype that has me worried about that particular package as a viable platform going forward.

Any listeners out there have experiences with Mumble that might help us clear out the problems we had in this session? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?….

Session 34: Way Too Easy
session

Here is part 1
Here is part 2 early and not yet on the feed for the lucky people who check in here.

The Guild election is underway and the PC’s are asked to keep an eye on things by their patron Joshua Dare. Things go too smoothly for the hapless heroes and they are sure the other shoe is about to drop. Horror! Nothing goes wrong….

Hahahahahahahahahhahaha (sniff) sometimes I love being the GM. Be warned, this session is a lot of exposition on my part with the players doing little in the way of action, but having some great conversations. Almost a pure role-playing session.

Session 33: A Dish Best Served Hot!
session

GM: Jamas
Players:Bert, Jesse, Marcus, Nick

Here is part 1. Due to how we took our break and starting a little late, this part is just over an hour long.
Here is part 2 early! This isn’t on the feed yet so you lucky people that check here get a bonus.

A visiting scientist stirs up trouble in Metapol as assassins close in for the kill! Chef gets a taste of human flesh and may never be the same. Ace reporter Anton LeVey is new on the scene and digs up dirt on all the city’s ills. Marlow is broken by modern fashion and Bishop goes toe-to-toe with an albino Hulk! Don’t miss this exciting installment.

Jamas guest GM’s on this one and I finally get a chance to play in my own world. We go back to our crime solving roots and it is a welcome break, at least for me, from the deep, dangerous world of politics that we have been involved with for no small time now. Congrats on this game Jamas, and I hope to be able to play Anton again soon.

Jamas here. Thought I’d throw in links to some of the real life inspirations. The Ville de Paris, run by the C G T. And Theodore Gobley.

Session 32: The Fall Of Constantine
session

Players: Jamas, John, Jon, Marcus, Nick, Jesse

Constantine is ran to ground like the dog he is, but the man is devious. Gavin has an explosive reunion with an old friend and Chef refuses to drown his hat. Will Bishop get another photo-op? Will Marlow finally snap and kill everyone? Your answers to these questions and more are answered in this pulse-pounding episode!

Here is part 1
Here is part 2

A loaded session this time with six players to juggle! A challenge that Skype was barely able to keep up with but we muddle through. This ends the Constantine Arc, and the gang is off to new adventures. The next game will be ran by a guest GM. Everyone applaud Jamas stepping up to the bat for a thrilling adventure in two weeks!

Session 31: The Meat Wagon
session

Players: Jamas, Jesse, Marcus, Nick

Here is the first part
Here is the second and last part

The hunt for Constantine continues as the gang race around Metapol to follow the crumbs that Constantine has left. From violent explosions, bellhops loosing heads, driving in traffic while talking on phones, excitement awaits! The exploits are all done while driving in a police meat wagon with two dead bodies in the back.

Jessee was having connection problems on this one and we only here him in the first hour or so of the recording before technology overcomes him and he has to drop out. This is part two of what I’m dubbing the “Hunt For Constantine” story arc.

Interview with Logan, GM of Heroic Cthulhu
interview, Logan, Heroic Cthulhu

I got my start in podcasting actual play games by being a player in an excellent game called Heroic Cthulhu. This was a homebrew game based on Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu RPG with a few twists. The GM, Logan made this game very enjoyable. For those interested, here is a two part interview I recorded with him and another fellow player, Travis.

Session 30: The Best Game Ever!
session

Players: Jamas, Jessee, Jon, Marcus, Nick

Here is the first part.
Here is the second part.

We’re back after a month long hiatus! This session gets personal as some players delve deep into their souls and bare such shattering truths as : “I was just thinking of murdering him and I got happy as a school boy”. Mr. Bishop also puts in a bid for public office. Who wouldn’t vote for a smarmy womanizer? The investigators catch a break in this episode and fine out at least ONE of Constantine’s identities.

Joy! It feels GOOD to play again.
