Session 62: The Marmoset Rises

Here is session 62.

Here we are, the stage has been set, the characters arrive and we begin shooting the big finale. The heroes quickly arrive at the Sphinx after having acquired a Lorry, expedition outfitted and carrying a small quantity of dynamite. We gain entrance to the super-villain lair and proceed to bluff our way in. Gavin meets his old boss and gets the chance to put Marlow down like the dog he is. Is there a betrayal? Will it all end in fire and death? Will Marlow’s dog get fed? Find out in this season ender!

Wow….the gang is laser focused and we get to the heart of the game quickly. We are unfortunately not graced with J. Guilt in this session and miss out on having Hundaguard around for the epic finale. This went down pretty much as I expected, with some consideration to the guys trying to talk their way into a heavily fortified villain lair instead of starting out guns blazing. It ends well in my opinion, with the fate of several characters unknown and marking a transition in the political landscape. I can’t wait to start the next season, but for you listeners, it will be some months before we get back into it. There’s some rules wrangling to hash out and another game I’m going to be running. Some of the players have decided to run sessions of SSM base either in an earlier time line or even, perhaps the new. I may get to be a player again!

While the regular SSM game is away, the feed will be filled with miscellaneous games that have accumulated over the years. You’ll get samples from many different game systems as well as different GM styles. I hope you will all enjoy the break.

Session 61: Freezing In a Desert

It’s night and you are lost in what appears to be an endless desert with no landmarks as far as the eye can see. You are also soaking wet and the temperatures are below freezing. You’ve got a pack of smokes, some steam tech and sunglasses … that’s right, you are on a mission of Steam, Steel and Murder.

Having survived the tomb that Tesla’s legacy led our adventurers into, we now have to survive a night in the desert. Some crafty survival skills and calls on the quantum phone have the Zeppelin on it’s way and arriving sometime mid-morning. We still have a German of the 3R persuasion with ill gotten gains from that tomb to track down, however! This adventure leads our heroes into the most dangerous lair in all of Cairo … a Jazz lounge.

Only one more session before we end the season and Joshua manages to stay awake for this one!

Session 60: Murder In The Dark

Tomb robbing with the height of artistry, that’s what you are in for. The valley of kings is invaded by our staunch group of ‘big damn heroes’ as the scene opens. The action is fast and our heroes are racing against the clock as death follows close behind. Will they drown in a desert? Will they be eaten by some unseen horror? Will strange technology turn them into vapor? Find out in this session.

This is the beginning of a three session plot arc that will bring SSM to a season finale. After close to three years it’s time for a break. I’ve had concerns for a while now about power-creep and the inability to make serious threats against the PC’s. That and needing to put the finishing touches on the SSM RPG means it is time for much needed down time. I estimate two more sessions and perhaps a season ending chat with the players, after that several months without SSM. When we come back, the world will have changed, the rules as well and some of the players will have decided to retire characters.

In the interim, I’ll be running a Deadlands, Savage worlds campaign which will be released on the regular feed.

Session 59: Bags of Hot Air

Air pirates! Do we make a run for it or fight! We’re the PC’s damn it! Of course we fight…after pretending to be helpless ‘pleasure’ boaters with an effeminate captain at the helm. Our brave crew takes on an amazing number of pirates and win the day! Glory and blood for all! They do show a heart and save a goodly number of these villainous men, turning them over to the authorities in Gibraltar before continuing on to Cairo. In Cairo, we finally receive Tesla’s legacy…a bronze box with a map to a tomb. It seems that another team already has staged an expedition on this site while our heroes were in transit. What will they do next?

Aiiiiigh did I bungle the combat in this one. Guilt tried to point it out to me at the end of the recording, but I didn’t catch on to what he was saying until I started the editing process for the audio. I offer up not feeling well as being my only excuse on this one. I do think it let Marlow cut through far more mooks, far quicker than he would have otherwise though. It’s been a month since last we played and this wasn’t a stellar way to jump back into it, but none the less, we have our next recording.

Session 58: 2 Weddings and A Trial

The investigators are off to visit the Cario university in Egypt. There they hope to find answers to some as yet unexplained mysteries. The Airship “Still Unnamed” is on it’s maiden voyage, filled to the brim with equipment, food and booze … did I mention the 5 APE crew? Along for the ride are Xander, fulfilling the role of daring pilot, and the Beta clone in case we need repairs! Moving from one place to another is never easy, and in this case we get to visit a lost island when the Still Unnamed is forced to land due to deadly weather conditions. Join us as two of our crew suddenly find themselves to no longer be bachelors!

Ooooooooo so fun. The testosterone level gets high in this one as lovely native girls are flaunted and bargains are struck to acquire some womanly flesh.

Ethan Thane has moved into his posh new mansion in district 1, taking on quite a bit of debt in the doing. Mr. Thane has also stepped down from his position with the Cheka and has opened his home for a house warming party with a guest list comprised of Metapol’s finest celebrities and public officials. It all seems off to a good start, but what’s a house warming without a corpse?

Sharon, get better! This was a fun little interlude session. I didn’t have the spare time to game prep for our big expedition to Egypt, so instead you get this. Some really great thinking on the players’ part for this session, I may have handed out the most Fate chips ever in this adventure.
